Insects: butterflies: peacock butterfly (Inachis io).

Under strong enlargement the very filigree structure of the scales on butterfly wings is revealed. The scales allow light and radiant heat to penetrate while acting as inward insulation. The longitudinal ribbing of the scales causes the metallic shiser. The roof-shingle-like structure is striking.

Zoology: worms: leech (Hirudo medicinalis).

The leech is one of the annelids, or segmented worms. They are blood-sucking, external parasites with suckers at both ends. They live in fresh water, and attack both cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals. Medical applications: for varicose veins and rheumatic diseases, and to regulate blood flow in the case of limb grafting (e.g. re-attached fingers). The leech produces the anticoagulant agent hirudin.

Zoology: insects: ant, antenna.

Ants communicate by means of their antennae. They palpate their conspecifics in rapid rhythmic progression. To permit optimum mobility, the feelers are attached by a ball-and-socket joint.

Insects: Bristle tails: Silverfish (Lepisma saccharina).

Silverfish can be found in kitchens and bathrooms in humid places. They are wingless urinary insects with scaly skin, long, flexible probes and 3 bristles at the tail end. They feed on carbohydrates (sugar, flour...). Detailed view of the typical shed.

Parasiten: Milben: Varroa jacobsoni

Diese aus Südostasien nach Mitteleuropa eingeschleppte Milbe parasitiert auf Bienen. In ihrer Heimat befällt sie nur Drohnenmaden, in Mitteleuropa jedoch auch die Maden der zukünftigen Arbeiterinnen. Die Varroa-Milbe ist für die Imkerwirtschaft von Bedeutung. Die Bekämpfung der Milben erfolgt durch eine mit Ameisensäure getränkte Pappe, die in den Bienenstock gelegt wird.

Zoologie: Spinnentiere: Zecken: Ixodes ricinus, Hallersches Organ.

Zecken sind blutsaugende Milben. Ihre warmblütigen Wirtstiere nehmen sie durch Erschütterungen und ihrem Geruchssinn war. Die Gattung Ixodes hat zum "Riechen" ein spezielles Organ am ersten Beinpaar ausgebildet: das Hallersche Organ. Naht ein Wirt, lassen sie sich von Grashalmen oder Gebüschen auf ihre Opfer fallen, suchen eine warme, dünnhäutige Stelle und bohren ihre Mundwerkzeuge in den Wirt. Der Saugvorgang kann mehrere Tage dauern, die Zecken nehmen dabei bis zum 200fachen Ihres Körpergewichts an Blut auf.

Insekten: Larve der Kriebelmücke.

Kriebelmücken sind stechend-blutsaugende kleine Insekten. Sie legen ihre Eier in Fließgewässern ab. Die Larven befestigen ihr Hinterende auf Steinen und nutzen die fächerartigen Fortsätze am Kopf, um Nahrung aus dem vorbeiströmenden Wasser zu sieben.

Butterflies:
Green-Striped Swallowtail (Papilio palinurus)

Papilio palinurus belongs to the impressive Swallowtail butterflies or Nymphalidae. The surface of a wing scale displays very fine veins. The inside of this scale is made up of many layers of chitin that have an exactly defined, same distance to each other. If light hits on it, a strong, green iridescence originates from interferen-ces inside the scale.

The eggs of most Water Bears are protected from external influences by a bizarre covering. Like the adult animals the eggs are able to survive for many years until they hatch at optimum environmental conditions.

Insects: Eye of a Mosquito

The eye of a mosquito consists of several dozens of single eyes, attached to each other like honeycomb. Every single eye perceives a small cutting of the whole field of vision, the sensory impressions of the single eyes are processed in the brain to a general view. A mosquito can perceive quick movements much more clearly than a human being (up to 300 pictures/sec, person 60 pictures/sec).

Larva of the Common Green Lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea)

The larvae of green lacewings feed predatory on aphids. They seize the aphids with their mandibles, transformed to big pliers and suck them.

Raupe des Bläulings

Die Raupen des in ganz Europa verbreiteten Bläulings (Polyommatus spec.) sind zum Schutz vor Fressfeinden dicht mit Borsten bewehrt. Viele Bläuling-Raupen leben myrmekophil, das heißt in Symbiose mit Ameisen. Diese bieten ihnen Schutz vor Parasiten und Prädatoren und erhalten als Gegenleistung zusätzliche Nahrung aus Sekreten aus besonderen Hautdrüsen der Raupe.

Lamination

The term lamination stands for the bonding of foils with a firm base, one could also call it' mounting'. For the products in the' AluVerbund' category, a high-quality art print - a monthly sheet from the LifeSciences calendar - is mounted on a 3mm thick aluminium composite trunking material.

Lamination of carrier material

The art print is applied on the reverse side of a double-sided adhesive film. After the protective film has been pulled down, the art print is rolled' cold' onto the aluminium composite plate.

An extra stability of the plan is achieved by mounting the solid suspension profile on the bottom side of the picture facing the wall.

The art prints used here are the remainder of our LifeSciences Calendar (Hidden Worlds) published in the years 2002 to 2017.
The image motif was created by the renowned, internationally acclaimed science photographers Oliver Meckes and Nicole Ottawa (eye of science) on the company's own screen, Oliver Meckes and Nicole Ottawa (eye of science).

We have carefully separated out the particularly high-quality printed monthly newspapers and prepared them for use by lamination. The surface of the art print is coated with special UV spot varnish. This gives the pictures a special brilliance. Because the product already looks very noble, we have refrained from adding an additional cover, such as acrylic.

AluDibond: Dibond® is a brand for a rigid sandwich material. The brand is owned by the manufacturer 3A Composites.
Dibond® consists of two 0.3 mm thick aluminium plates thermally bonded with a polyethylene core. Dibond is correspondingly lighter than aluminium.
FirstBond GbR from Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) has developed a' imitator' product with similar properties under the name' FirstBond', which is used in our aluminium composite products.
